Here we provide information for applying to the BSCB program. The typical applicant will need to send test scores, undergraduate records, a research plan, and a few other things. If you are selected as a candidate for interview, we will fly you to Galveston for an interview, or in some cases, perform the interview by telephone. As diversity is important to UTMB and the BSCB program, international students are encouraged to apply. Good luck!
Selection Criteria
Graduate students are selected on the basis of prior academic achievement, as well as on degree of motivation and future promise for careers in scientific research and teaching. The Graduate Track in BSCB confers only PhD degrees. Students entering the program enroll in an academically rigorous degree plan, tailored to their individual backgrounds and interests, with strong emphasis on independent laboratory research. Stipend
Students admitted to our program are guaranteed full fellowship support of $25,000/year throughout their graduate career, as long as they make satisfactory progress toward their degree. Sometimes, additional funding may be acquired through fellowships or grants. Ask your mentor how the fellowship/grant process works. Also, for those students that need more funding, student loans are available, too.
