Outside the Lab
Many of our students are active in extracurricular activities. Some students' hobbies are photography, yoga, swimming, surfing, marathon running, gaming, volunteer work, and just hangin' out. The BSCB is closely tied to the BCSO -- our departmental student organization. The BSCO is very active, doing social work & volunteering, social outings & their infamous BBQs. Galveston Island is on the Texas Gulf coast in the United States, about 45 miles south-east of Houston. Galveston celebrates various festivities throughout the year. The largest crowds, sometimes in excess of 250,000 people, are typically partying at Mardi Gras, or the yearly Texas Motorcycle festival. Other incredibly fun options on the island are Dickens on the Strand -- a throwback weekend into Victorian times, the yearly Air Show, the regular Historic Homes Tours, the new Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Moody Gardens, the bi-monthly Art Walk, various triathlons and 5k runs, the 1900 Opera House -- where many famous actors/musicians perform, and more.
Take a look around to see what student life is like in Galveston.
